Like many people on the autism spectrum, Kevin Clark found that the interview process was the hardest part of securing a job. He would get a first-round call but never hear back from potential employers. With help from HireAutism and his “family success coordinator,” a title he’s bestowed on his mom, Kevin worked on his interview skills and refocused on his career goals.
Kevin was ultimately introduced to Melwood and the abilIT program. Melwood’s team quickly saw Kevin’s potential. They encouraged him to apply for AbilityOne positions that may require a security clearance, and—much to his surprise at the time—Kevin quickly secured an interview with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Four and a half years into his role as a warehouse specialist, Kevin has been praised for his exceptional work ethic and commitment to getting the job done.
Kevin's dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. He has been honored as Employee of the Month and nominated for the prestigious 'Big Kahuna' award, a biannual recognition for exceptional support to colleagues. This recognition is a testament to his commitment and the impact he has made in his role.
Kevin praises his bosses at Melwood for their constant support and for demonstrating the work ethic he has always tried to emulate. Supporting customers to the best of his ability, always being on time, and valuing quality service are some of the values he has gained in his role.
Kevin embraces an entrepreneurial spirit in his free time, creating his own business for converting home videos to DVDs.
Kevin appreciates the opportunity to learn something new every day and encourages others in similar situations to always put in their best effort. “Don’t give up—there is a job out there that you will be good at!”
