Nadine Jones has always had a drive to better herself. Her challenges with reading and spelling prevented her from filling out adequate job applications, but with the help of a social worker, she was able to connect with Eggleston and secure a job as a laundry worker. 17 years into the job, she has risen to the rank of team leader and continues learning new skills daily.
Nadine credits Eggleston with helping her change her attitude and become more positive. Where previously she was reactive, she has grown into a person who values respect and is willing to appreciate everything her colleagues bring to the table. Through this evolution, she has become better at her job and more independent.
In her words, a typical day is always a great day. Among her many duties are ensuring that the floors and equipment are always clean and that everything is well-organized. As a leader in her department, she is responsible for communicating with her supervisors to keep them updated on everything happening on the ground. For her commitment, Eggleston has awarded her Employee of the Month.
“My supervisor is the best part about my job,” says Nadine, “She taught me how to focus and meaningfully talk to people. She treats me right and works with me through the ups and downs. They care about people with disabilities.”
Nadine's journey is a testament to her determination and the supportive environment at Eggleston. She is grateful for her teammates who have guided her and helped her learn to operate all the laundry equipment. Her goal is to continue learning, master new machinery, and train others to succeed as she has. The stability her work gives her allows her to pursue her interests—singing, dancing, playing games with her friends, and keeping her mind occupied.
When asked what advice she would give a person with a disability struggling to find their career path Nadine said, “I would tell people to come to Eggleston and they will help you address your issues. I wanted to better myself and do more in life, and they have helped me to do so.”
